Akiko Aoki

Born in Tokyo in 1986, Akiko Aoki graduated from Joshibi University of Art and Design, Department of Fashion Design in 2009 and studied fashion at Central Saint Martins in London. After returning to Japan, she worked as an assistant at a collection brand before starting her own womenswear brand “AKIKOAOKI” in 2014. In 2018, she was selected as a nominee for the LVMH Young Fashion Designers Prize shortlist organized by Louis Vuitton Group. In November of the same year, she won the Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix Newcomer Award and the Shiseido Incentive Award sponsored by Mainichi Newspaper.
AKIKOAOKI views the act of “dressing” as a cultural tool for communicating with society and the times, while expressing the way of life and attitude of the person wearing the clothes. The brand specializes in the coexistence of structured silhouettes inspired by women's unique physicality and deconstructed shapes that are the complete opposite of such silhouettes, and is characterized by unique and bold cuttings.
